Adult STEAM Night Series--Second Thursday each Month
October: Botanical Prints
The structured beauty of plants has long inspired naturalists and artists alike. In this workshop for adults, participants will learn techniques for capturing the texture and shape of plants and incorporating it into art.
When plants are used as masks for the Gelli plates, which allow you to build highly layered single-use (monotype) prints, you can achieve stark, contrasting leaf compositions, or delicate botanical transfers. Print on standard paper to create stand-alone art or on tissue/rice paper, which can be seamlessly collaged into other mediums.
Gelli monotype printmaking is a very accessible art form, great for all skill levels. No previous experience required! This accessibility makes it a great way to explore or experiment with form, texture, and color theory.
All materials are provided, including dried plant specimens, but participants are encouraged to bring their own leaves, flowers, and stems to print with.
