Celebrate One Community, One Book by making out-of-this-world art with Mobile Makerspace!
Become an artist explorer and use the elements of art as a tool to investigate and interpret the surfaces and atmospheres of our celestial neighbors, all while you make beautiful, soft pastel-art inspired by NASA images.
Art and the Cosmic Connection is an interdisciplinary program originally developed by artists and educators Monica and Tyler Aiello in conjunction with NASA's Jet Propulsions Laboratory.
NASA’s space images aren’t just iconically beautiful, they’re also rich in data. Scientists use multiple techniques to make sense of this data, including visual analysis. Likewise, artists use their sense of sight to guide their creativity, making sense of visual information using a system of concepts called the elements of art: line, shape, color, value, and texture. Scientists utilize analogous concepts, and the elements of art can be a valuable tool in planetary image analysis, fusing art and science.
