Exhibition by Local Artist, Elvin Bishop
Elvin D. Bishop, known artistically as Poppa Ghos, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and creative whose work bridges the worlds of visual and musical expression. Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, his artistic journey began in grade school at Pike View Elementary, where a charcoal drawing of a leafless winter forest was selected to tour statewide in the Arkansas Art Mobile. This early recognition sparked a lifelong passion that continued to develop at Central Junior High in North Little Rock and Parkview Fine Arts Magnet High School.
Bishop briefly attended the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, before forging his own path. He established a combined art and music studio, producing original visual works alongside recorded music. Inspiration determines his choice of medium, which ranges from acrylics and oils to graphite, charcoal, watercolor pencils, colored pencils, and ink.
Influenced by his dual practice as a recording artist, Bishop’s work—under the Poppa Ghos pseudonym—often carries the rhythm, emotion, and narrative depth of a song. His evolving yet distinct style explores the complexities of relationships, with a particular focus on the family dynamic. Each piece offers a window into lived experience, inviting viewers on an emotional journey that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
