TITLE: The Universe According To The Dish Pit

Artist Matthew Castellano blends working in a kitchen with creating a visual experience to bring you a glimpse into the world of skateboarding, creating art, and working in food service.

Large, abstract, mixed-media painting, up-cycled skateboard decks, and intricate Chine Colle prints collectively make an exhibit that is out of this world.

Bio:

Matthew Castellano is a multimedia artist born in South Florida in 1985 and lived there until 2010 where he fell in love with skateboarding and creating art.  He currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with his wife, Melanie Castellano, where he has shifted to a more professional focus. He creates the majority of his art in his home studio. Not only has he displayed a lot of his own work over the past eight years, he has also curated several shows accompanied by other local artists; both professional and emerging. His work has been exhibited within the tri-state area as well as in Florida. It has been featured in juried exhibitions including "Small Works on Paper" presented by the Arkansas Arts Council and the Department of Arkansas Heritage in 2014 and 2017. His work is focused on creating a world in which imagination rules. Through minimalism and symbols it seeks to find a calming point in an attempt to simplify an overly complicated world. He explores a mixture of mediums and utilizes a balance of color and illustration to convey the constant struggle of man versus civilization. Producing daily and collaborating with other artists, he is constantly developing new ideas.

Statement:

Personifying my feelings about humanity while exploring the idea of Man versus Civilization in existence and conflict, and in struggles and triumphs; both realistically and abstractly. Using a minimalistic style as a means to take a chaotic world and open it up with simplicity by applying a variety of media to convey all aspects of the human experience.
