Come have some tea, read a book or catch up on grading, and be in the supportive company of fellow teachers.
Are you a teacher or childcare worker in need of a place to relax for a minute after a chaotic day? Working in a career that requires constant care for others can lead to “compassion fatigue,” hurting a teacher’s effectiveness, job satisfaction, and their personal well-being. Join fellow teachers for a twice-a-month community space that prioritizes stress relief and burnout prevention. We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, alternating between two meeting styles: silent book club and activity. During silent book club meetings, participants are encouraged to bring or borrow a book of their choice. We will read until about 4:15, and then we will open up the room for discussion-- whatever that discussion needs to be. Maybe it's about an awesome book you're reading, or maybe it's tips for equitable grading or creating a more positive classroom dynamic! For an activity meeting, we will do a relaxing craft or self-care activity together and chat freely.
This week will be silent book club! Tea, light snacks, cozy vibes, book recommendations, and encouragement will be provided.
Teachers, student-teachers, veteran teachers, and care workers of all backgrounds and experiences are welcome. Drop in as your schedule allows-- don’t worry about arriving late or leaving early.
